Trying out blogging from my phone

After being disappointed with the two other Windows Mobile apps I’ve tried (tblogger also called Travelling Blogger) and PocketsharpMT, I decided to keep trying different applications with the thought of eventually putting together a comprehensive review of my findings. Today I came across Diarist 2.1 and am giving it a try.

Unlike going through the wordpress admin interface mobile plug-in pack version, this program does have a nice way to select categories (which seems like something important for my blogging). Tblogger seemed nice but was very slow for me. Pocketsharp also seemed decent but on my Touch Pro 2 it was unusable with the physical keyboard because it would keep popping up the virtual keyboard.

I had to do a bit of searching to figure out how to configure the settings for wordpress but it is very easy once I figured it out (I suppose that would always be the case). After selecting to add a blog, I select “generic metaweblog”. The program actually includes a nice menu option for this screen to automatically detect the API (which I would have figured out, but the option is nice) after entering the website login/password and address (including http:// at the beginning). I had already enabled xmlrpc through the wordpress admin panel under settings–writing.

Diarist did accurately find the correct API file. It looks like everything is working fine from there and this has a nice clean interface thus far for making this entry.
